WOK releases VSMINI free vocoder effect plugin for Windows

WOK has released VSMINI, a free vocoder effect plugin modeled after the Sennheiser VSM201 vocoder.
WOK VSMINI
A Vocoder with 20 bands and the sound of the famous Sennheiser Vocoder (used by Kraftwerk and others).

This is a simplified version with less controls for easier usage. Modulation and carrier signals are fed into it by the left and right channel of the stereo input.

There is also an internal oscillator for use as the carrier with saw and noise waveform and optional MIDI control.

VSMINI is a free download for Windows (32-bit VST).

Bedroom Producers Blog releases Grooove BPB free drum sampler plugin

BedroomProducers Blog has announced the release of Grooove BPB, a freeware drum sampler plugin based on the full version of brunsandspork’s Grooove.
Grooove BPB

Grooove BPB is a virtual drum sampler instrument, based on the excellent Grooove plugin by brunsandspork. This brilliant drum sampler puts an emphasis on playability and expressiveness, making sampled drums sound as dynamic and life-like as possible with easily accessible modulation controls.

This unique drum sampler features dual drum slots (6 in Grooove BPB, 128 in Grooove), each capable of holding two different drum samples simultaneously, with per-sample controls for volume, pan, pitch, sample start and length. Each drum slot also comes with a built-in LFO for modulating the filter cutoff and resonance, volume, pan, mix, pitch, sample delay, fade in/out, and sample start/end times.

All of these parameters can also be modulated via MIDI note velocity, which is the key to how Grooove makes sampled drums sound “alive”. Simply add a bit of velocity modulation to your snare sample’s filter cutoff and it will sound more muffled at lower velocities, just like a real drum!

Grooove BPB features:

  • Unique ‘dualistic’ Sound Engine allows for setting two velocity-dependent variations per sound.
  • 14 drum kits and 150 drum samples built-in, expandable with external samples.
  • 6 dual drum pads, capable of holding up to 2 samples simultaneously.
  • 11 velocity controlled sound parameters per drum pad.
  • 3 stereo audio outputs including mini mixer.
  • 2 LFOs.

Grooove BPB is available for download for Windows and Mac (32/64-bit, VST/AU/Standalone).

SIR Audio Tools releases SpectrumAnalyzer plugin, including free version

SIR Audio Tools has announced the release of SpectrumAnalyzer, a state-of-the-art spectrum analyzer plugin, which offers a lot of opportunities to display the spectral content of your audio material, which helps you create a better mix.
SIR Audio Tools SpectrumAnalyzer

FAST & PRECISE DETECTION
SpectrumAnalyzer uses modern and reliable technics to analyze your audio material. It has a FFT (Fast-Fourier-Transform) and an analog-style (parallel band-pass IIR filter) engine, both of which can run simultaneously. So you can benefit from the more accurate time resolution of the band-pass filters and the better frequency resolution of the FFT at the same time. Check out the cool intelligent peak-detection, which automatically detects resonant frequency peaks in the signal. Use the snapshot function to easily save the current state of your analyzer, so you can compare the spectral profile of your current project with other songs. SpectrumAnalyzer also includes a VU-Meter (with peak and RMS measurement) and a Stereo Correlation Meter.

VIEW MULTIPLE-TRACKS SIMULTANEOUSLY
Check out the cool and unique auxiliary feature. This functionality makes it possible to send audio from one SpectrumAnalyzer instance into other instances. This is a quite powerful tool, because you can set up as much aux-sends as you want, and then you can easily switch between them as input source. For example, you have different subgroups and want to see the spectrum of all of them in one SpectrumAnalyzer instance: put a single SpectrumAnalyzer instance on every track and activate the aux-send. Now you can comfortably switch between these aux-channels in your master SpectrumAnalyzer instance. In the full version, you can open up to 4 slots in one plugin instance.

CUSTOMIZABLE
SpectrumAnalyzer has nearly endless adjustment possibilities. To name a few: FFT-Size & Window. Number of Bands/Filter-Steepness and Bandwidth (analog style bandpass analyzer). Time Resolution & Release speed. Optional Peak Hold and intelligent Peak Detection. Spectral RMS with adjustable integration. Mid and Side Signal detection. Adjustable Colors, two different spectral smoothing algorithms. Display Range and Slope/dB. Adjustable GUI size and scaling. Optional gradient and shadow effects.

SpectrumAnalyzer for Windows and Mac (VST/AU/AAX) is available for the introductory price of 38 EUR/$44 USD. It can also be purchased in the “StandardCLIP + SpectrumAnalyzer Bundle” for 39 EUR/$45 USD.

If you register for the SIR Audio Tools newsletter, you will also receive a 25% discount coupon, which can be used to purchase SpectrumAnalyzer and the bundle.

A free version with limited features is available for download.

Sanford Sound Design re-releases Cobalt Hybrid Synth for free Windows VSTi)

Sanford Sound Design has announced that Cobalt is now freeware.

Cobalt is a VSTi software synthesizer for Windows inspired by many of the digital synthesizers from the 1980s.

In the early 80s as digital technology became cheaper, many manufacturers designed synthesizers that combined earlier analog technology with newer digital technology. These were known as hybrid synthesizers. Well-known hybrid synthesizers are the Korg DW8000 and DW6000, the Ensoniq ESQ-1, and the Kawai K3.

In analog/digital hybrid synthesizers, the oscillators responsible for generating waveforms are digital while the filter section remains analog. This approach freed designers to use any kind of waveform; they were no longer restricted to traditional analog waveforms such as sawtooth, triangle, and pulse. However, by using an analog filter, these synthesizers retained the warmth earlier analog synthesizers were known for.

Though Cobalt is a purely digital synthesizer, its overall architecture is very much like those early hybrid synthesizers. It features a wide selection of waveforms, most of which were resynthesized from actual hybrid synthesizers, while providing traditional subtractive synthesis capabilities for sculpting its sound.

Key Features:

- GUI created by grymmjack.
- 26 waveforms - many of which were resynthesized from 80s hybrid synths.
- Flexible modulation routes.
- Apply PWM to any waveform.
- LFO delay.
- Polyphonic Portamento.
- Key tracked envelopes.
- Rich overdrive effect based on a custom algorithm.
- Stereo delay effect with MIDI synchable delay times.
- Easy to use.
