Sanford Sound Design re-releases Cobalt Hybrid Synth for free Windows VSTi)

Sanford Sound Design has announced that Cobalt is now freeware.

Cobalt is a VSTi software synthesizer for Windows inspired by many of the digital synthesizers from the 1980s.

In the early 80s as digital technology became cheaper, many manufacturers designed synthesizers that combined earlier analog technology with newer digital technology. These were known as hybrid synthesizers. Well-known hybrid synthesizers are the Korg DW8000 and DW6000, the Ensoniq ESQ-1, and the Kawai K3.

In analog/digital hybrid synthesizers, the oscillators responsible for generating waveforms are digital while the filter section remains analog. This approach freed designers to use any kind of waveform; they were no longer restricted to traditional analog waveforms such as sawtooth, triangle, and pulse. However, by using an analog filter, these synthesizers retained the warmth earlier analog synthesizers were known for.

Though Cobalt is a purely digital synthesizer, its overall architecture is very much like those early hybrid synthesizers. It features a wide selection of waveforms, most of which were resynthesized from actual hybrid synthesizers, while providing traditional subtractive synthesis capabilities for sculpting its sound.

Key Features:

- GUI created by grymmjack.
- 26 waveforms - many of which were resynthesized from 80s hybrid synths.
- Flexible modulation routes.
- Apply PWM to any waveform.
- LFO delay.
- Polyphonic Portamento.
- Key tracked envelopes.
- Rich overdrive effect based on a custom algorithm.
- Stereo delay effect with MIDI synchable delay times.
- Easy to use.

Bedroom Producers Blog releases BPB Cassette Drums freeware drum machine VST/AU plugin bundle

Bedroom Producers Blog has released BPB Cassette Drums, a freeware drum machine VST/AU plugin bundle based on the Cassette 606, Cassette 808 and Cassette 909 drum sample packs.

Cassette Drums is a freeware VST and AU plugin bundle consisting of three individual plugins: Cassette 606 VST, Cassette 808 VST and Cassette 909 VST. The plugins were designed and developed by Crimson Merry, whose work can be followed on Instagram and Twitter. The included plugins are compatible with any PC and Mac based digital audio workstation capable of hosting VST or AU plugins. Both 32-bit and 64-bit systems are supported.

The instruments are based on our free Cassette 606, Cassette 808 and Cassette 909 sample packs, featuring the sounds provided by Edgar Maguyon, Gregor Zemljic and Reddit user Anderson303. Each plugin comes with a set of three drum kits: Clean, Warm and Hot. The Clean kits are based on the raw, unprocessed recordings of Roland TR series drum machines, whereas the Warm and Hot kits feature the saturated drum hits that were re-sampled from an audio cassette deck.

Each plugin features a customized user interface with direct access to volume and release parameters for each drum hit. It is also possible to route the drums to individual outputs if you’d like to process them separately in your digital audio workstation of choice. A global volume is also available, as well as on on-screen keyboard for quick and easy playback of the included sounds.

To install the plugins on your computer, simply extract the downloaded ZIP archive’s contents to the default VST or AU plugins folder on your system. Make sure that all of the files from the archive are extracted to the same folder.

LVC-Audio releases T-Chain free versatile channel strip plugin

LVC-Audio has released T-Chain, a free versatile channel strip plugin, designed to be used in a variety of situations.

T-Chain is a versatile channel strip plugin, designed to be used in a variety of situations. It utilizes a modular design so users can arrange different sound modules within the signal path. It can be as simple as using a single EQ or Compressor module, or as complex as you can imagine. Each module can be rearranged, added, and deleted by drag-and-drop.

T-Chain has numerous modules to choose from, and comes with several free modules that are easy to use, versatile, and powerful. This includes a free EQ, Compressor, Gate, and Splitter (for splitting the signal into two distinct paths). Additional modules can be purchased a la carte, and include more advanced modules such as preamp modules, oversampling capability, and more advanced dynamic modules.

T-Chain is a free download for Windows and Mac (VST/AU/AAX).
