Reason Studios launches free plugin version of Reason Rack

Reason Studios has announced the release of a free version of its Rack, which works natively in all major DAWs on Windows and macOS.

For more than two decades, Reason’s virtual Rack has invited music makers to do something most software tries to hide: turn it around, follow the cables and discover what happens when sounds are connected in unexpected ways. Today, Reason Studios is opening that experience to everyone.

Available in VST3, AU and AAX plugin formats, Reason Free gives producers 15 iconic devices, including synths, effects, MIDI generation, and beyond.

Europa: Wavetable synth with three spectral wave engines and over 600 patches.
Kong: Drum designer with 16 pads, nine drum modules, and 11 support generators and effects.
ID-8: Songwriting instrument with 36 General MIDI-compatible presets across pianos, drums, bass, and strings.
Monotone: Monophonic analog-style bass synth with a two-oscillator design.
Scream 4: Distortion and overdrive unit with 10 damage types and body EQ.
The Echo: Stereo delay blending digital, analog, and tape-style character with Trigger and Roll modes.
Audiomatic: Retro-inspired character effect with 12 transform types.
RV7000 MkII: Reverb with convolution spaces, classic algorithms, and EQ.
MClass Maximizer: Look-ahead limiter with soft clipping for clean loudness gains.
Scales & Chords: MIDI chord player covering 30+ scales and chord voicings.
Combinator: Macro patch system for combining multiple Rack devices into one preset.
Pulsar: Dual LFO modulation device with 16 waveforms and CV output.
Spider Audio: Audio merger and splitter for parallel processing and flexible routing.
Spider CV: CV and gate merger and splitter for advanced modulation routing.
MIDI Out: MIDI output device for sequencing and controlling external gear or host instruments.

The free Rack retains Reason’s signature flip-around patching view, letting users access CV and audio patch points behind the devices for custom routing and modulation, and it opens the Rack Extension marketplace to all users. Free and paid third-party instruments and effects from independent developers can be added without buying the full Reason software.

Reason has always been about musical exploration—when you connect two Devices, turn the knobs, and discover a great sound you weren’t looking for. With Reason Free, we’re giving everyone a piece of that experience. The included Devices are fantastic in their own right, but the Rack also gives you the freedom to go deeper, experiment, and build something entirely your own. – Mattias Häggström Gerdt, Product Manager at Reason Studios

A free Reason Studios account is required to download and activate Reason Free, and any presets or Combinator patches made in the free version carry over to the full Reason DAW.

Jeesonic updates EQ Pro free equalizer plugin to v1.2

Jeesonic has announced an update to its 24-band equalizer effect plugin for Windows and macOS (VST3/AU).

Version 1.2 of EQ Pro comes with various improvements and fixes.

EQ Pro is a transparent, surgical equalizer with up to 24 freely typed bands over an interactive curve, a real-time spectrum analyzer, per-band dynamics, Mid/Side and Left/Right processing, and selectable phase behaviour. No analog colouring: it does exactly what the curve shows.

Changes in EQ Pro v1.2

Spectrum landmarks: Indicators that mark the frequencies that keep standing out over time, not the momentary peaks. Click one to see its frequency and note and hear that spot. Double-click drops a band right there. It never decides anything for you, it just gives you a place to look.
Analyzer tilt and decay: The display now reads the way you want it to.
Preset browser: Factory templates plus your own presets, right in the header.
A/B compare: Hold two versions of your settings and flip between them.
Stepless scaling: The VST3 now scales the whole UI continuously from 75 to 200 %, not in fixed steps, remembered with your project. The Audio Unit keeps fixed steps.
Gentler auto-dynamics: Bands level in proportion to their range instead of hard-limiting.
More musical shelf Q: No jump to extreme peaks after a small turn.
Cleaner top end: High bells and shelves stay true near the top of the range instead of narrowing, and a new Natural Phase mode adds the analog phase response.
Check the full changelog for details on all improvements and fixes.

RigSuite (Free/Windows): a full rig and a measurement lab for your neural amp models, cabs, and reverbs

Description:

RigSuite 0.9 (free) [PLEASE SEE IMPENDING PATCH NOTES AT BOTTOM]

A rig that listens to itself and gets out of the way. Free Windows tools for neural amp models.

If you have hundreds of .nams and IRs with names that tell you nothing, you know the problem: the tone you want is in there somewhere, but finding it means loading model after model and listening. RigSuite fixes that. It is two free Windows programs that work as a pair. RigScope listens to your neural amp models, cabinets, and reverbs, measures what they actually do, and writes it into the files. RigSculpt plays them and reads that same analysis back, so the rig already knows how a model sounds the moment you load it. One less thing between you and your sound, and free to use even in the music you sell.

RigScope: know the rig

Point it at a folder and it listens to each file, measures it, and says it in plain English. A library you could not read by name, you can now read by sound.

Amp Bench: sorts your neural amp models into six gain-tier archetypes, each split into finer sub-flavors, writes a short overview of each, and finds the ones that sound alike.

Cab Bench: fingerprints cabinet impulse responses and reshapes them without loss, with EQ, a voicing borrowed from another cab, or a blend of mic layers.

Reverb Bench: measures, sculpts, and builds convolution-reverb impulses from scratch.

RigSculpt: play the rig

Not a single-model player. It is a full rig built around neural amp models, running two independent amp-and-cab paths, mono or true stereo with one-click balancing, each with its own input calibration, EQ, and pan.

In front, a pickup-voicing model and a tuner. After the amp, an eight-band output EQ and a Character tone control.

A full pedalboard on board: a three-voice drive, a four-voice compressor, a chorus, a vibe, five delay modes, and six reverbs (five original engines plus convolution).

Analysis-aware: it reads what RigScope wrote into your files to match one amp's response to another, voice its effects to the rig, and lay your library out by how the models actually sound.

How they work together

RigScope writes its measurements straight into your .nam and .wav files. RigSculpt reads them back, so nothing is locked away in a database. The knowledge travels with the files, and any tool that can read them, a language model included, can pick it up. Measure once, and the library stays navigable everywhere.

What is in the box (all free)

RigSculpt (VST3 plugin) and RigScope (desktop app), for Windows.

Original neural amp models, cabinet impulses, and reverb IRs, recorded and measured here at the bench.

The full field guide, with the whole suite documented in detail.

Why it is free:

I want to be transparent that I used modern development tools, including AI, to handle a lot of the demanding engineering work that would otherwise require a much larger team and a longer chain of handoffs. This still cost me money. I also still spent hundreds of hours on it, and every design, musical, and technical decision here is mine -- these tools just let me keep those decisions closely connected and keep refining each part until it reaches the sound and experience I have in mind. I understand AI use is a potentially sensitive issue, so I'll say it plainly: anything I build this way will always be free, and scoped to be a tool for public benefit.

RigSuite stands on the Neural Amp Modeler ecosystem, the open project created by Steve Atkinson, and giving these away is a way of paying that forward. The tools got built because sorting a big library by ear is slow, tedious work, and once they were good enough to fix that, giving them away was simpler than selling them. No account, nothing held back for a paid tier. Support here on Ko-fi is welcome, never required.

Requirements

Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit.

A VST3 host (any DAW) for RigSculpt. RigScope runs on its own.

Works with your existing .nam models and cabinet impulses, and the factory content is bundled.

A note on the Windows warning

When you run the installer, Windows may say the app is from an unknown publisher, or SmartScreen may show "Windows protected your PC." That is expected, and it is not a virus warning. It only means the software is not code-signed. Code signing requires paying for a developer certificate every year so Windows trusts the publisher by name, and I do not pay for one. This is freeware I built to give back to a community I benefited from, not something I am trying to profit from, so an annual fee for a certificate does not make sense here. To continue, click "More info" and then "Run anyway." The full guide walks through it, and everything else about the suite, at conversantsoundworks.com/#rigsuite.

Want more of my own tones? The premium .nam packs on my Ko-fi are expanded, more flexible sets of my own amps, each embedded with RigScope analysis so they drop straight into RigSculpt. The free Artificer Pack sampler is a taste of all of them.

Liability, refunds, and support

RigSuite is provided free and as is, with no warranty of any kind. You use it at your own risk, and I am not responsible for any loss or damage that results from using it. Because it is free, there is nothing to refund. I posted these meaning them to be free. If you find them useful and want to give back, support on Ko-fi is genuinely appreciated but never expected, and any support is a voluntary gift rather than a purchase, so it is non-refundable.

Support the foundation

None of this would exist without Steve Atkinson's Neural Amp Modeler, shared openly with the community. If RigSuite is useful to you, please consider supporting Steve as well. His work is the ground everything here stands on: ko-fi.com/stevenatkinson.

Remix & mashup first

Layer and blend existing audio with automatic tempo and key detection, tempo matching, and pitch shifting.

Non-destructive editing

Tempo, pitch, and trim are clip settings, so your original files are never altered and edits can be revised.

Stem separation

Split any track into vocals, drums, bass, and other parts, then remix and recombine them freely.

Loop slicing

Chop a clip into slices on a beat grid or with hand-placed markers, then rearrange them into something new.

Mixer & effects

Per-track EQ, a DJ-style filter, compressor, and reverb and delay sends, with a master output and live metering.

Track automation

Draw breakpoint curves to automate filter, pan, sends, gain, and more across the timeline.

MIDI deck controls

Use a supported MIDI deck controller to control the arrangement timeline and selected-track effects, or record and refine editable scratch patterns.

DJ turntable effects

Add a vinyl-style brake or backspin to the end of a clip, or reverse it entirely — classic turntable moves, all non-destructive.

Mixdown export

Render your whole project to WAV, FLAC, AIFF, or MP3 with optional loudness normalisation.

KVR Developer Challenge 2026: Download 56 plugins & sound libraries

KVR Audio has announced that all entries of its 2026 Developer Challenge are now available to download as the voting stage of the 10th edition of the event has opened.

The KVR Developer Challenge began in 2006 and has occurred every 2-3 years ever since. It’s for anyone who develops Audio Plugins, Applications or Soundware. The challenge is to create and release a brand new free audio plugin, application or sound library / pack / set that will benefit the community at large. Creativity is always key, it can be as simple or as complex as you want – KVR members will vote on the entries and pick the eventual winner using whatever criteria they choose.

This year’s entries include plugins from Darkpalace Studio, Tilr, DSPTone, Session Loops, Clack.DIGITAL, Quiet Music, Bjango, and many more.

I will highlight some of my personal favorites over the next few days. Feel free to drop a comment and let us know which entries you think are worth checking out!

Temecula DSP MDV-II & MCV-I

The studio workhorse that defined affordable digital effects × 2 and The bedroom producer's secret weapon

MDV-II plugin interface

MCV-I plugin interfaceINCLUDED WITH MDV-II

One Two Chips. 100 Programs. Unlimited Character.

There are two types of producers: those who think this reverb sounds "too colored," and those who refuse to mix a track without it. We modeled this cult-classic style because sometimes, perfection is boring. You use it when you want your synth to float in space, your guitars to smear into a lush nostalgic wash, and your mix to have a sound that's unmistakably its own.

MCV-I & MDV-II are FREE!

(Don't let "free" fool you — these are two of my favorite effects. Because they're so easy to use, and Keith Barr's algorithms sound incredible!)

Release Notes

I played an acoustic guitar to it and then it's basically an Alesis Midiverb II, it's the reverse reverb program. If I ever had a secret weapon it's the Alesis.

- Kevin Shields, My Bloody Valentine (Tape Op)

And if you like two engines, try four. Meet the DEEP/4— our four-engine multi-FX plugin.

Hear the Character

Each source includes a dry (unprocessed) sample followed by various programs from the MDV-II across reverb, gate, reverse, flange, chorus, delay, and multi-tap effects.

MDV-II Features

Seven Categories of Classic Effects

All 100 factory programs are included, organized into seven categories that cover every effect type the original hardware offered.

Category Programs Description

Reverb 01–29 Small, medium, and large rooms from bright to dark, plus extra-long ambient decays

Gate 30–39 Slow and fast gated reverbs for punchy drums and percussive sources

Reverse 40–49 Reverse reverbs and regenerated reverse effects for atmospheric swells

Flange 50–59 Triggered flanges and stereo panning flanges with triangle-wave LFOs

Chorus 60–69 Light to deep chorus with sine-wave modulation for thickening and shimmer

Delay 70–89 Fixed delays from 35ms to 460ms, multi-tap, and regenerated echo up to 4 seconds

EFX 90–99 Stereo generation, thickening, multi-tap ambience, and frozen flange

Dual DASP-16 Engine

The MDV-II uses two DASP-16-inspired processing engines running in series. Unit A feeds into Unit B, so you can stack a reverse reverb into a chorus, run a gated verb into a delay, or chain any two of the 100 programs together. Each unit has independent program selection, mix, and bypass controls.

Pan-Spread Stereo

Each unit has its own pan control. With both pans centered, the signal runs as a pure series chain — you hear the combined result of A into B. Spread the pans apart and the two stages separate in the stereo field, letting you place each effect independently. It's a smooth crossfade from stacked mono to wide stereo.

Faithful DASP-16 Emulation

The heart of the MidiVerb II is the custom DASP-16 (Digital Audio Signal Processor) chip designed by Keith Barr. The MDV-II models the signal flow, tone, and bandwidth-limited character associated with this style of processor, including the warm, compact sound of its 31,250 Hz internal sample-rate behavior.

Vintage Mode

Toggle vintage mode with the fuse icon in the toolbar to drop the internal engine from 44.1 kHz down to the original hardware's native 31,250 Hz sample rate. This lowers the Nyquist ceiling to ~15.6 kHz and stretches reverb tails and delay times to match the original unit, reproducing its characteristic darker, softer tone.

Intuitive Controls

Input Level, Mix, Pan, and Output Level knobs give you precise control over signal flow. A/B buttons switch between the two engines, each with its own program, mix, and pan settings. A per-unit bypass button lets you disable either engine independently. The two-digit numeric keypad, arrow buttons, and drag-to-scroll LED display make program selection fast and familiar. All parameters are fully automatable in your DAW.

United Plugins launches TrapTune Core and expands UnitedFree Bundle

United Plugins has announced the release of a lightweight version of its highly acclaimed automatic vocal tuner, TrapTune.

Simultaneously expanding its popular UnitedFree Bundle, United Plugins continues its mission to provide independent creators and bedroom producers with professional tools completely free of charge.

While the flagship TrapTune is celebrated as an all-in-one auto-tuning powerhouse, TrapTune Core focuses strictly on the essentials. It delivers the exact same elite Tune-In engine as its big brother, optimized to maintain a lightweight footprint with near-zero latency—making it perfect for tracking vocals live or managing large project sessions without straining the CPU.

To achieve this streamlined workflow, the core version focuses purely on pitch manipulation and omits the comprehensive modulation and spatial modules found in the premium version:

No Second Voice / Doubler: The automated unison harmony and stereo widening engine has been removed.
No Distortion: The custom vocal saturation and overdrive section is excluded.
No Reverb & Delay: Space and time eff ects are completely omitted, allowing producers to route the tuned signal to their own external processors.

What remains is full, uncompromized access to natural pitch correction, aggressive hard-tuning (for the classic artificial vocal effect), formant shifting, voice transposing, and precise key/scale selection.

Existing customers may already have an ad-free experience waiting for them. Users who already own the premium UnitedFree Bundle license will find the ad-free version of TrapTune Core automatically credited to their accounts. Additionally, those who own the full version of TrapTune can install and use TrapTune Core directly, as the full license automatically unlocks the Core version and removes the advertisements.

TrapTune Core is available for macOS and Windows (VST/VST3, AU and AAX) and can be downloaded directly via the United Plugins Manager application.

The plugin is free to use with ads. Users who prefer to remove the advertisement banner can purchase an ad-removing license, which is available for an introductory launch price of just €7 EUR (regular €19 EUR).
