Simplesmente genial!

Yamaha intros reface Mobile Mini Keyboards

Yamaha has introduced the new reface Mobile Mini Keyboards, portable yet powerful sounding keyboards that descend from a distinguished pedigree.

Yamaha reface

Why should guitarists have all the fun playing outdoors or anytime inspiration strikes? Even for beginners, these boards are fun to play because there are no deep, complicated control panels to learn: turning knobs and sliding faders brings an instant change in sound and players are able to create their own tones for a fun, tactile experience.

Building on Yamaha’s 40-year heritage of creating some of the most heralded and renowned electronic keyboards in music history, reface reimagines the interface of four classic Yamaha instruments – some of which are difficult to find in the vintage market and weigh too much to carry around. The new series offers thick, booming sound, built-in speakers, 37 keys with professional-grade HQ-Mini action (derived from the flagship Motif XF professional synthesizer) and battery-powered portability for making music on the go. But more than mere travel companions, these versatile keyboards connect with external speakers, smartphones, tablets, MIDI devices and computers for use on stage and in the studio.

reface DX draws its inspiration from the iconic DX7, which debuted in 1983 and became the first commercially successful electronic keyboard used extensively by a multitude of bands throughout the decade and beyond, including Toto (“Africa”), the Doobie Brothers (“What a Fool Believes”) and the theme from “Beverly Hills Cop” (Axel F”). With the press of a button, the reface DX changes from retro-80s tones to cutting-edge modern sounds perfect for EDM. A new Multi-Touch Control interface makes it easy to customize your sound with the powerful FM (frequency modulation) synthesis engine. The instrument includes 8-note polyphony, 32 Voice Memories and a backlit display.

reface YC reimagines the YC Yamaha Combo organs, introduced in the late 1960s and used by Pink Floyd, Tangerine Dream and others. The YC offers all the expression of drawbars, rotary speaker, percussion and effects. It includes five retro organ sounds—ranging from tonewheel to transistor to the original Yamaha Combo organ—and 128-note polyphony.

reface CP redesigns the Combo Piano, launched in 1975 and ubiquitous on stages during that era. The sound enhanced the work of Keane, U2, Genesis, Billy Joel and more. The CP model features six electric piano sounds including tine, reed, clav, toy and CP80 plus direct control of six different 1970s-style effects built into its retro-chic design. It also includes a sustain pedal input with a half-damper response and 128-note polyphony.

reface CS rekindles the legacy of the CS-series Control Synthesizers, introduced in 1976 and played by Vangelis, Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson, among others. Offering 8-note polyphony, reface CS uses virtual analog synth technology and five flexible oscillator modules to create a wide variety of complex sounds from analog to digital.

reface features a “one to one” control scheme, meaning the panel controls perfectly match the tone generator for direct sound creation and musical inspiration.

“reface offers high-quality touch, tone, interface and superior design at an affordable price,” said Nate Tschetter, marketing manager, Music Production, Yamaha Corporation of America. “These inspiring, horizon-expanding instruments are fun to play and let keyboard players take their music anywhere.”

The reface YC, CP, CS and DX mobile mini keyboards will ship in September 2015, priced at MSRP $799 USD.

Roland releases free AIRA Modular Customizer App & 2 new AIRA software products

Roland (Booth #924) has expanded its popular line of AIRA products with a new free customizer app and two software synths that offer flexible options and infinite music creation possibilities that further blur the lines between software and hardware.
AIRA Modular Customizer

The AIRA Modular Customizer app lets AIRA users fully re-program the internal signal path of AIRA Modular effects units (compatible with TORCIDO, BITRAZER, DEMORA and SCOOPER effects). The app’s array of virtual, re-patchable sub-modules offers complete control of each effect’s signal path, for full user customization. For added flexibility, patches can also be saved and recalled in real time, and shared with other AIRA Modular effect users.

There are currently 15 virtual sub-modules, with more available in the near future. They include: LFO, ADSR, NOISE, SAMPLE & HOLD, RING MOD, FILTER 6 dB, FILTER 12 dB, TONE, AMP, MIXER, STEREO MIXER, CURVE CONV, GATE DIVIDER, TRIG TO CV DELAY TIME, and MIDI CLOCK TO GATE. Musicians can use them to easily customize the signal path of their AIRA effect by connecting the headphone jack of their smartphone or tablet to the REMOTE IN jack on any AIRA modular effect module. Alternatively, users can connect via USB to MAC or PC for realtime control.

The AIRA Modular Customizer app is available for download for iOS, Android, Mac OS X, and Windows.

Roland also debuts two new AIRA soft synths on July 8 — the SH-101 PLUG-OUT Software Synthesizer, and the SYSTEM-1 Software Synthesizer with Librarian.

                                                              Roland SH-101 Plug-Out

Like its hardware counterpart, the new SH-101 PLUG-OUT Software Synthesizer is a complete and authentic reproduction of Roland’s iconic SH-101 monophonic synth from the 1980s, right down to the fine details and odd quirks that make it one of the most popular classic synthesizers of all time. Based on Analog Circuit Behavior (ACB) technology, the new soft synth version not only reproduces the original SH-101’s legendary sounds, but faithfully recreates the very behavior of its analog circuitry. Included are classic SH-101 synth sounds — bass, lead, noise, and sound effects, plus reverb, chorus, delay and crusher effects that were not included in the original.

                                                  Roland System-1 software synthesizer

The SYSTEM-1 Software Synthesizer with Librarian features many of the same functions as the hardware SYSTEM-1/1m version. It offers the same sound quality as its hardware counterpart, making it ideal for musicians who either work solely in the software world, or who are considering the hardware version and would like to audition it first. In addition, based on popular user request from the hardware version, the Librarian software has been expanded to now include 64 patches.

Both synths are available for purchase via download; a free trial version is also available. In addition, the Librarian software for SYSTEM-1 is available for free to registered SYSTEM-1/1m owners.

LightLead launch Kick Starter Campaign

Following on from the successful debut of LightLead at the Winter NAMM show, inventors Iconic Sound Ltd, have just started their sixty-day Kickstarter campaign.
Light Lead

LightLead™ is the world’s first optical analogue, jack to jack, musical instrument cable. Its fully patented technology offers musicians a lead with zero capacitance and loading, resulting in a more precise, perfect, dynamic and crystal clear sound. LightLead™ is ideal for guitarists, bass players, and violinists, in fact any electric stringed instrument where a lead is required. Here are just a few of the comments from industry experts:

“Iconic Sound’s LightLead™ may be the first substantial innovation on instrument cable technology since, well, the cable was invented.” HarmonyCentral.com

‘There is not a guitar player out there who won’t want one of these.’ Mike Chapman, record producer and songwriter

‘I have never had a better signal from a guitar, this lead is nothing short of a paradigm shift in cable technology.’ Producer Liam Howe (Lana Del Rey, Elle Goulding, Adele)

‘It definitely makes your guitar sound clearer and fuller. It’s a clever bit of kit.’ Grammy award winning producer Rik Simpson, currently recording the forthcoming Coldplay album, using prototype LightLeads™

The sixty-day Kickstarter campaign has been launched to raise funds to start manufacturing this revolutionary product. The funds raised will be used to acquire the production tooling needed to start manufacturing LightLead™ and to set up distribution of the product.

Using traditional copper guitar cables has always come with a significant risk of grounding problems. Over the years many musicians have been badly shocked, electrocuted, and there have even been some cases of death. A well-known example of this is Keith Relf of The Yardbirds (later becoming Led Zeppelin). Relf was electrocuted and subsequently died on May 14th 1976 as he was playing electric guitar with a badly grounded cable in his basement studio. Being made from non-conductive fibre optics LightLead™ completely eliminates this risk of an electric shock through the cable.

There is a strong team behind this product. David Holmes is a sound engineer, programmer and keyboard player and Danielle Barnett is a professional musician, businesswoman and entrepreneur with more than twenty years experience in the music industry. The new member of the team, Damon Waller, is the ex Managing Director of Orange Amplification and guitar player who brings with him nearly thirty years music industry experience.

It is now time for the next generation of musical instrument cables and your contribution will help launch a new revolution in the pro audio arena. The Limited Edition LightLead™ model that is available on Kickstarter is exclusively for our backers, and will not be on general release. Please spread the word and tell your friends.
