J1000 has announced the release of DQ65, a free dynamic equalizer effect plug-in for Windows.
J1000 DQ65

    Standard parametric equalizers have three parameters – central frequency, Q factor and gain amount. After you set them filter works statically independent of incoming signal.

    DQ65 alters the gain dynamically with two parameters: one gain for high amplitude, other for low. Frequency and Q factor don’t change – they operate the same as in standard EQ.

    This plugin is designed primarily for track equalization, especially for instruments with wide and varying dynamic range.

DQ65 features

    5 peak minimum-phase stereo filters.
    Two gain controls per filter, for high and low amplitudes.
    Scalable envelope follower that determines high/low blending.

After discovering an orhpaned Musicmaster bass in an NYC recording studio (left behind by famed indie rock producer, Jim O'Rourke), Janek Gwizdala fell in love with the "punchy, warm vibe" of this short scale, one-pickup bass released by Fender in the early 70's.

With a fresh set of nylon tapewound strings and an array of effects pedals (including the Moog CP-251, the Boss OC-2 and the Bassballs Nano), Janek brought his newly coveted bass to The Loop Loft studios to lay down his latest loop collection, "The Fender Musicmaster Sessions".

Utilizing the focused, earthy tone of the Musicmaster (along with some vintage Universal Audio preamps), Janek recorded 13 complete bass sessions, each containing up to 27 different loop and chord variations. With grooves ranging from slow soul, to tweaked out cinematic, to straight up indie rock, to deep in the pocket funk, The Fender Musicmaster Sessions is the largest and most eclectic bass loop series released to date.

HoRNet SongKey MKII is a key detector, SongKey MKII works in real time analyzing a polyphonic audio stream (usually a song) and thanks to some advanced artificial intelligence algorithms identifies in which key the song is composed, SongKey MKII also tracks key changes during the song,

Since the brain inside SongKey MKII tries to “guess” the correct key, the three more probable keys are shown together with a confidence level for each key. SongKey MKII also displays a “note profile” for the song showing which notes are played the most.

SongKey MKII also analyzes the song as it progress and displays the current chord that is being played, a time window is used to identify chord changes and a different IA algorithm is applied to the note profile.

SongKey is very useful in those situation in which you don’t have an instrument at hand to find out the key of a song you are working on or if you are a DJ and want to make a mash up but you don’t know in which key a song is written. E a música mais feliz é… a Don’t Stop Me Now, dos Queen, dos anos 70. Quem o diz é um estudo dos britânicos da indústria eletrónica, Alba, que realizaram um inquérito junto de 2.000 pessoas no Reino Unido. A ideia era que de entre várias canções escolhessem as suas músicas favoritas, aquelas que lhes provocassem sentimentos de felicidade.

A música dos Queen foi apontada mais vezes e isso pode ser explicado pelo ritmo da canção, segundo o neurocientista Jacob Jolij, que analisou os resultados. “A análise confirmou o que a literatura já nos havia ensinado: as canções compostas por um maior ritmo são as mais eficazes na hora de produzir emoções positivas”, esclareceu Jacob Jolij ao The Huffington Post.

“Praticamente todas as canções mais felizes têm um ritmo superior em 10 pulsações por minuto ao de uma canção pop standard”, acrescentou o especialista. A canções “Dancing Queen” dos Abba e “Good Vibrations” dos Beach Boys também conseguiram boas pontuações.

Apesar desta eleição, a felicidade que uma música provoca dependerá sempre de uma avaliação pessoal, que é subjetiva. Por isso é que serão imensas as músicas felizes para uns e não tanto para outros. As associações positivas que desenvolvemos é que vão definir se determinada canção nos faz ou não sentir bem.

“Embora não seja possível identificar uma música como aquela que transmite melhor sensação, o que podemos fazer é identificar características específicas de canções que elevam o espírito das pessoas”, disse Jolij. “Quanto mais dados tivermos disponíveis, mais podemos aprender sobre como a música afeta o nosso humor”, acrescenta.

O prémio foi atribuído pela interpretação feita pela pianista dos concertos para piano nº 3 e nº 4 de Beethoven. O trabalho, gravado em parceria com a orquestra sinfónica da Rádio Sueca e com o maestro inglês Daniel Harding, foi editado em disco em 2014.

Os prémios Gramophone têm 12 categorias e existem desde 1977. O ano passado, o vencedor do prémio na categoria “Concerto” foi o pianista francês Jean-Efflam Bavouzet.

A pianista portuguesa está também nomeada para a categoria especial “Gravação do ano”, cujo vencedor será anunciado numa cerimónia marcada para o dia 17 de setembro, que decorrerá em Londres.

O coro da Gulbenkian foi também vencedor de um prémio Gramophone, na categoria Ópera, pela sua participação na ópera “Elektra” de Richard Strauss. Este foi o último espetáculo encenado pelo francês Patrice Chéreau (1966 – 2013) e contou com direção musical de Esa-Pekka Salonen à frente da Orquestra de Paris. Esta ópera também está nomeada para “Gravação do ano”.

Audacity version 2.1.1 released

The Audacity Team has announced the release of Audacity 2.1.1. for Windows, Mac, GNU/Linux, and other operating systems.

Audacity 2.1.1 replaces all previous versions.

- The most visible new feature is scrubbing and seeking , including backwards play. Updates to Quick-Play also help with finding a precise position in the audio.
- You can now install plug-ins without restarting Audacity or add and remove any effect or generator from the menus.
- Over 50 bugs have been addressed with this release. Edits are now processed much faster in longer projects of a few hours duration.
- Effects now have presets. A new Limiter replaces the Hard Limiter effect. There's a new version of Vocal Removal, a cross-fade effect for combining clips on the same track and 'classic filters' available as an opt-in effect.
